What to Do with Your Wildman Beard

Casey Affleck’s current grooming situation isn't perfect. He looks like he skipped his last haircut (okay, six or so of them), and it’s unclear where the hair from his head ends and his beard begins, thanks to a fountain of unruly curls around his ears and neck. Affleck himself joked that his beard looked more Duck Dynasty than Santa-like when he hosted Saturday Night Live in December.

But there are a couple of things working in the actor’s favor, causing all grooming sins to be forgiven in our minds. For one, every man should be allowed to grow a DGAF beard at least once in his life. We’re going to assume this is Affleck exercising that right. For another, he’s been dressing incredibly well lately.

Though his hair and beard get wilder with every Manchester by the Sea screening, Affleck’s suiting looks get sharper and more dapper, too—a combo we like to refer to as the Dandy Wildman. The effect is rebellious and elegant at the same time, and makes him look like a guy who, while he might not care very much about the state of his hair, hasn't gone completely rogue on the whole personal-hygiene thing.

If you're going to ride out these cold winter months in a similar bearded fashion, you'd be wise to step up your style game just the same. If not with three-piece suits, at least with trousers, Chelsea boots, and a nice-looking topcoat.
