Jimmy Fallon Now Has a Full ‘70s Mustache

Yesterday, during a commercial break from The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon casually turned his scraggly beard into a full ‘70s mustache with a little help from a Brooklyn barber (as you do). Fallon had apparently been growing out his beard since Memorial Day in preparation for what he has dubbed the #summerofstache.

Even before hashtags were a thing, men have been celebrating the summer by rocking mustaches. No facial hair style quite captures the slightly tacky, sexually charged, fun-as-hell quality of the season like a full blown, take-no-prisoners, DGAF mustache. If we could summarize the seasons through facial hair it would be scruff for fall (looking handsome), beards for winter (extra warmth), a clean-shaven face for spring (rebirth), and a mustache for summer (sex and pool parties). In short, we agree with Fallon that this summer, like all summers, is the Summer of ‘Stache.

So does a mustache suit Jimmy Fallon? Yes. Like Ethan Hawke, who is also rocking a new summer ‘stache—which his wife loves, apparently, because it makes him look like a porn star “in a good way”—Fallon is a man of a certain age (i.e. over 17) with a normal-to-large size upper lip, and the ability to grow a patchless-mustache. Thus, it suits him. Unlike rocking a full beard, the threshold for whether you can rock a mustache well is pretty low. Like vacation shirts, they sort of look good (and yes, just a little bit sleezy) on everyone.
