How to Avoid LeBron James' Common Winter Beard Mistake

LeBron James fears no turtleneck. One of the NBA's most stylish gentleman, James takes the kind of style risks most men can actually adopt into their own lives (albeit in not big & tall sizes)—that's why we're such big fans of his consistent sartorial excellence.

King James can be currently seen on the cover of Sports Illustrated's annual "Sportsperson of the Year" issue sporting a cream colored jacket and light tan turtleneck. It's a look that menswear novices should steer clear of (light tan on light tan is a weird, milky combo on most dudes), but one that a master like LeBron pulls off easily.

But when James turned up to an event celebrating his SI cover in the inverse of that same look, things got decidedly dicier. To be specific, LeBron's dark beard joined his dark turtleneck to create a hairy sort of style vortex that we can't stop looking at.

It's a common mistake for men in winter who are looking for any way to keep warmth in and cold out. But, if you have a black beard, you have to make a critical choice—do you want to keep your long beard or wear turtlenecks? It might not be the easiest decision to make, but it's a lot better than looking like your shirt is connected to your face. In LeBron's case we think his beard could use a tune-up, even if he does reside in the blistering cold of Cleveland, Ohio.

The other, much easier solution than shearing off your hard-earned facial hair: just wear a turtleneck in a contrasting color.
