I can think of many reasons why a beard would get in the way of a bike ride—stray bugs, flying leaves, complications with helmet straps, and more. And that's just on a leisurely bike ride around town. But Simon Geschke, German entrant in the Tour de France, has no time for such precautions. One would assume that his well-groomed beard would get in the way, and perhaps even slow him down. After all, many cyclists shave their legs in the name of of speed. But Geschke cares not. Geschke is German, and Germans do not let silly things like physics get in their way. He pumps and pedals his facial hair through the land of croissants like an efficient beast. So efficient that he yesterday won the 17th leg of the race. Perhaps the beard has Samson-like powers, and is a secret source of cycling strength. If that's the case, NEVER SHAVE.
