Justin Bieber isn't exactly a grooming role model. But apparently the pop star's fans have been inquiring about the Biebs's skincare habits, and this weekend Bieber obliged, detailing his routine on Instagram while clad in nothing but a Versace-esque bathrobe. The description was short, because his skincare routine is, too: “I simply use a Clarisonic brush and then I use this, uh, Christie Kidd cleanser…and then I go ‘sha-blam’ all over the dome," Bieber said. "And then I wash that bad boy off, and use a little bit of sunscreen.”
While the haphazard-but-still-charming quality of the narration, down to the F-bomb at the very end, was trademark Bieber, the routine itself is surprisingly considered. Electronic cleansing brushes have their skeptics, but the act of using one at least demonstrates an interest in taking care of one’s skin. Most 23-year-old guys probably don’t go to the effort of using a what is essentially a high-powered $169 washcloth to scrub skateboarding grime off their mugs.
And then there’s the cleanser, which is made by Beverly Hills dermatologist to the stars Christie Kidd. Visiting cosmetic advisors is a rite of passage for celebrities—but we’re talking about a guy who posted a photo of his mouth stuffed with cake seven days ago. The vision of him sitting for a skin consultation boggles the mind.
But the real shocker, especially given that Bieber is far from practical in his wardrobe, is that he takes the time to put on sunscreen every day (and a GQ favorite, at that). There are leagues of grown-up, custom-suit wearing men who still don’t think they need to wear sun protection every day. In this one very specific instance, Bieber is truly wise beyond his years. To be clear: if you want to avoid looking like a baseball glove when you’re 60, you’ve got to wear some sunscreen—even in the fall, and even when you aren’t heading to the beach. If Justin Bieber can do it, you can, too.
