Don’t Let This Hair Styling Mistake Happen to You

Chase Bryant, country music star and fan of shirtless selfies, hit the red carpet last night with a gravity defying pompadour. This being the Country Music Awards, the threshold for big hair was higher than normal, but Bryant’s ‘do was on another level. It was like two Elvis quiffs combined. It almost looked like he used a Bump-It. In interviews Bryant has referred to his styling technique as “the light socket method” so clearly he’s well aware of how extreme it looks. He apparently achieves the height by blow-drying his hair straight up, then adding a whole bunch of gel to keep it in place.

While we’re inclined to let musicians be weird in the spirit of art and creativity, if you’re just a regular guy with a regular job and a high fade haircut, consider this a cautionary tale in hair-dryer usage. Like that old woman who draws her eyebrows on a little bit higher every day, creating height with a hair dryer and heavy-duty products is something that can get away from you over time. You start with a little bit of lift, slowly building up to Mark Ronson-level height, then one day you look in the mirror and your pompadour is two times the size of your forehead. Don’t let this happen to you. Use a light hand (not a light socket) when it comes to grooming tools, and switch up your haircut every five years or so in order to be able to look at the thing with fresh eyes.

Need some help with that? We've got you covered there.
