Jake Gyllenhaal's Double Whammy

Summer be damned, Jake Gyllenhaal is going against the common urge to depilate as it gets warmer and is embracing his long hair and full beard. To add a little textural and stylistic balance, the actor is really styling his hair — it looks like he's using some gel or strong-hold wax from root to tips and doing a sort of a mix between slicked back and side part. This contrasts nicely with the more rugged look of the beard and is both laid-back and debonair.

Steven Yeun's Floppy Mid-Length Cut

While Gyllenhaal makes a very convincing case of slathering on some gel an really leaning into the the Wall Street Banker 2.0—a modern take on the wet look of the '80s—Yeun is takes a bit of a shorter length, though definitely not short, and shows what happens when you put in just a moderate amount of wax and let it be a little looser. It's a little bit surfer, a little bit throwback Capri, but 100% amazing.

Louis Garrel's Grown-Out Curls

Guys with curlier hair often have fear of letting it all hang out—but French actor Louis Garrel demonstrates just how to do it. While shoulder length may not be in your future, if you have thicker hair, let it grow out on top and keep the sides slightly more maintained, to give your head shape, but don't fear letting it just be wild. Run a little light hold cream through before you go out, for a little sense of control, but less is more and gives you a bit of what the French call je ne sais quoi.

Arnaud Valois's Wavy Cropped Cut

Another French actor killing the grooming game is Arnaud Valois, who embraced a shorter cut, but didn't go for the everybody's-doing-it buzzcut or fade. We're calling it a crop, and it goes well with hair that's somewhere between straight and curly (ie wavy). The combed forward styling looks modern, even if it slightly recalls Roman curls. The one-day stubble is the perfect balance a young guy: slightly rebellious and undeniably cool.

Will Smith's Classic Fade

Perhaps Will is taking cues from son Jaden, who recently had to chop off his glorious dreads, or perhaps he's just embracing his enduring, classic 'do — a tight-on-top look with the perfect side fade. While longer hair may be trending in the men's grooming world (see above), not everyone wants to deal with all that as the temps soar. For no-fuss guys, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better alternative than the one Smith is presenting here.
