It’s officially mustache month, gentlemen, and time to grow a cookie duster for a good cause. Movember—the charity that raises awareness for prostate and testicular cancer—starts now, and GQ gal pal Kate Upton wants to give you the momentum to grow out the biggest, baddest soup strainer that your lip follicles can manage. She’s serving as Gillette’s official Movember team captain, and offered a few pointers to help guys gear up.

GQ: Mustaches aren’t widely known for their sex appeal. Any tips for picking up chicks while sporting facial fur?

Kate Upton: That’s what’s so great about Movember, it gives guys the confidence to try new styles outside their comfort zone. It’s definitely a conversation piece.

GQ: As Gillette’s official team captain, it’s your job to encourage men to keep going. Are there any motivational tips or tricks you’ve used to stay in the game during hard times—like wearing a bikini in the snow?

Kate Upton: The most important thing for me is to keep motivated people around me who genuinely want me to see me succeed. That’s why I became a Mo Sista, to support the cause.

GQ: Are there any mustache fails guys should steer clear of?

Kate Upton: I think all’s fair in the month of Movember. It’s more about the cause than the looks.

GQ: There’s a female version of Movember in the UK called Armpits for August. Think you could do it?

Kate Upton: Um, I would definitely need a support system on that one.
