The Hair That Made Leonardo DiCaprio Famous

Welcome to TBT, a look back at the epic style moves from decades past. Up today: our favorite now-Oscar-winner and passionate environmentalist's throwback waves. (It is Earth Day tomorrow, after all.)

Who: Leonardo DiCaprio

When: 1995

Where: At some undisclosed event for cool ’90s teens

Why: Just months before he broke every teenager's heart in Romeo + Juliet and a few years before he caused mass teen-girl hysteria the world over in Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio was just a rakish teen known for his edgy film roles (if you haven't seen What's Eating Gilbert Grape or The Basketball Diaries, please do so now. We'll wait). But looking back, there was something else that Leo had going for him that no one seemed to care about: a hair-god-level mop of blond hair, crested into a wave Conan O'Brien would be jealous of.

The leading man has had a lot of inspiring hairstyles throughout his career, but this wave is the first, and maybe the best. Don't get us wrong, a slicked-back style in black tie is great, his headband period was...weird, and our affection for his man bun is well-documented. Like fellow heartthrob of that era Jared Leto. Let it be said, 1995 was a very good year for heartthrob hair.
