Hair with highlights might be the inevitable come-down from the bleach-blond trend, but that doesn’t make the move any easier to accept. The last time guys were regularly dipping their hair in peroxide, it was called “frosted tips” and it looked pretty unfortunate on all human heads. That said, the guys who've adopted the look recently are more or less pulling it off. John Mayer is the latest to join the club.

As several commenters pointed out, John Mayer's “Autumn Sunrise” caption is a reference to Ghost. It suggests that he is fully aware that highlights were a questionable decision. Any woman will tell you that highlights are easily F-ed up and also a bit of a slippery slope. What is tasteful after your first visit to the salon (and yes, you should go to a salon to get it done) can get out of hand as you keep returning for freshening up. In other words, boy-band territory is easily veered into.
