As someone who spends a fair amount of time at the East Village outpost of Blind Barber, it was difficult for me to picture the so-gritty-it’s-cool barber shop/speakeasy surrounded by palm trees. But Jeff Laub, Josh Boyd, and Adam Kirsch have succeeded in bringing their downtown, throwback aesthetic west to Los Angeles (Culver City, precisely) into an up-and-coming ’hood full of the kind of cats looking for the cuts they do so well. As in the Tompkins Square Park location, the scissors shut down sometime in the evening, and the ’Barber becomes a bar that’ll quickly become one of the coolest rooms on the block to drink in. The grand opening is slated for Thursday of this week. Don’t miss out.
Blind Barber is located at 10797 Washington Blvd. Culver City, CA (310) 841-6679.
