For a minute, it seemed like every guy under the age of 35 (especially in fashion, especially in music) was bleaching his hair white-blonde. Now, with the exception of maybe Lucky Blue and Pharrell, gray and ashy pastel colors have taken hold as the rebel dye-job of choice. This month Zayn Malik and Adam Lavine, two highly tattooed, lightly bearded musicians went cotton-candy pink. On them, it works. For one, they don’t have office jobs, and for another, they’ve got the right haircut for weird-color hair.
Should you cop their style? Ask yourself whether your boss and the person who sleeps in your bed (hopefully not the same person) would be generally OK with it and make sure you’ve got the time and money to do it up right. This hair move might seem punk, but it actually requires an afternoon looking a little bit like this:
And if none of this sounds like your cup of tea, here’s another thought: Just wear pink. Specifically, this particular almost-gray, washed-out shade. If Pantone and the Fall 2016 runways have anything to do with it, the color will be everywhere soon. It’s okay to be sick of boring neutrals—how you swerve away from it all depends on you.
