Attempting to part your hair is relatively easy, yet this tonsorial trick can still go awry. Take, for example, famous internet human Cameron Dallas's as he casually exited the local sushi hotspot Katsuya in Los Angeles yesterday. Wearing an artfully distressed white shirt, blindingly bleached moto jeans and some Daaaaamn Daniel kicks, Dallas would the epitome of Cool Teen™ in 2016 if his hair hadn't betrayed him.
Listen, we're not trying to be sticklers here, but Dallas is known for his hair, some would even say it's his calling card. Just look to his Instagram account for proof. So it's disappointing to see his part so unkempt and afflicted with flyaways. After all, parting your hair is a very good way to make you look like you are, in fact, actually in control of your hair—and, by extension, your life—not the other way around.
We here at GQ are big proponents of the clean side-part that we've given you a six-step guide to achieving one of rock start status, and even made a four-minute video about how our very own staffers tame their hair. It's something we take very seriously.
And when you've got 15 million Instagram followers, you want to make sure that your side part isn't messy. We suggest styling it with a strong-hold wax—Layrite is an affordable option that has a strong hold—and use a comb to define the part, and then separate the hair. Then, brush your hair over and slightly up, making sure that the part is visible and that there's no stray wisps. After your hair dries, you can rub your hands through it, if you're going for a more relaxed, windblown look like Cameron, or you can let it be a perfectly sculpted work of art—totally up to you.
