James Franco, filmmaker, performance artist, regular artist, soap-opera guest star, writer, and proud owner of multiple graduate degrees showed up to the GOAT premiere in New York City with new bro Nick Jonas, both in stellar jackets. Franco was also accompanied by mustache reminiscent of circus ringleaders, porn stars, and Victorian Era gangsters. Franco's been flirting on and off with edgy facial hair for years now—remember the shaggy goatee days? But in it's current form his mustache is a firm facial hair commitment. Granted, Franco grew the thing for his role in the upcoming HBO series The Deuce, and to his credit he's been working the shit out of it. But here's a question: Is this facial hair cool? And if not, how could it be made cool again?

While it is a brazen mustache, we're still gonna go with no. This is not a cool mustache—not by GQ standards. However, it's got potential. And once Franco finishes playing twin porn stars on TV we'd suggest he trim the sides for a narrower shape (fact: the longer a mustache is, the sleazier it will look) and quit parting the thing in the middle. That should keep him from creeping everyone out on the red carpet. If you've got the ability to grow some serious upper-lip fuzz, and you're thinking about rocking a stud 'stache out in public, your best style strategy is to find a great mustache to copy. Start with the likes of Eddie Murphy and Tom Selleck. And if all else fails ask your most honest friends to weigh in.
