When the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery released its annual report on the industry’s trends back in March, we learned that guys taking part in cosmetic procedures (lipo, tattoo removal, face lifts, and the like) had grown by 325 percent in less than ten years. And just in 2015 alone, a significant number of the 1.2 million procedures done to men involved injectables, the fancy name for when doctors put a needle full of something in your face/neck/body.
Today The New York Times reports on a particular group of guys embracing quick-fix injectable procedures and a lot more: grooms. The men featured all claim to be going under the needle (or, in some cases, knife) for the same reason guys put on a tux or the nicest suit they’ve ever purchased to swap vows—they want to look their best on their wedding day. Couple that with the fact that people are waiting longer to get married (i.e., when they’re not dewy twenty-somethings), and that there are more people taking snaps of your big day than just the photographer you hired, and ten minutes getting the Fountain of Youth jammed into your forehead or crow’s feet starts to seem like a good idea.
But it’s not just vials of Botulinum toxin (nicknamed Brotox) that guys are opting for—and, naturally, bro-izing—before their big day. According to the Times, there’s also xeoman (like Botox, really called Xeomin), manlycures (a terrible way to say manicure), and guybrows™ (an eyebrow trim trademarked by Ramy Gafni). No word on Man-zilian waxes.
While we should probably just accept the fact that we’re entering the age of, well, not aging, we’d like to state for the record that a good suit and a good skincare routine can take ten years off any man’s appearance. And you don’t forfeit the ability to move your face when you take that course of action, which seems like a win-win to us.
